One is called Andrea ()
My angel, who brought out the best in me. She loves singing and is absolutely passionate about collecting UNESCO World Heritage
Sites. Any kind of animal makes her light up like a little child. She's incredibly full of life and would never give
up.
She questions everything and always needs to know things right away and if she doesn't, she just stops whatever she's
doing and quickly looks it up on Google.
A one-night stand turned into a long and happy marriage with her wonderful husband.
Sadly, he passed away far too soon. Still, she hasn't lost her spirit and now wants to fulfill a dream with me and go on a
“big journey”.
I'd describe myself as someone who loves to laugh (loudly), even at myself, and who manages to pass my joy for life on to
others.
I grew up near Heidelberg (Nußßloch), and even as a child I was drawn to sports and music. I took singing lessons, loved
being creative, and always had the wildest ideas in my head.
During my training in Karlsruhe to become a sports and gymnastics instructor, I made many lifelong friends in the student
residence thanks to my outgoing personality and that's where I met my husband, Uwe. Later, we moved to Augsburg, where I
worked for KIESER, just as I had in Karlsruhe. Most recently, I held the position of operations manager.
My husband and I always had a strong desire to see the world. We were eager to explore new cultures, sights, and countries. So
it happened that we said “Yes, I do” on 05/05/05 and then got married in church in Bled (Slovenia).
During our summer vacation in 2021, Uwe fell ill and was diagnosed with cancer, which he sadly passed away from in April
2022.
In May 2024, I successfully passed my exam as a Alternative Practitioner for Psychotherapy at the public health office.
The other one is called Frank ()
My favorite person (or should I call him my “best-friend stand-in”? 😉), someone I can talk with about
anything under the sun - about life, the world, and everything in between. Someone I can philosophize with, exchange ideas, and
dream with. He's the best man I can imagine: nothing ever rattles him, he's a true doer, and sometimes he even turns
into a bit of an “animal whisperer”.
During his long-term marriage, he has not only taken numerous trips, but has also had a taste of “world travel” for
almost a year.
His marriage ended in divorce, which inspired him to start the “camper-van conversion” project. And now that gives
us the chance to go on a “world trip” together.
I used to be the quiet type and rather introverted. Still, I'm always up for some silliness and I love to laugh.
I grew up as a child of the GDR in Fürstenwalde (near Berlin). The whole of the GDR celebrated my father's 39th
birthday and, incidentally, tore down the border at the same time. What a crazy party.
Even as a child, I enjoyed building things and standing with Grandpa in his carpentry workshop. So it is not surprising that
after military service I studied to become a qualified engineer for construction and successfully completed it. During this time
I met my wife Katja. We later moved to Augsburg because of the better opportunities on the job market. A second training course
as a real estate agent followed, which I completed with distinction.
Traveling to faraway countries and experiencing foreign cultures fascinated us, so in 2015/2016 we went on a world trip.
We had already tied the knot on May 5th, 2012, on Roseninsel and celebrated at Munich's Spring Festival.
My marriage with Katja eventually failed, and by the end of 2021, I was single again. This turning point led me to buy my VW T4, which I wanted to convert into a camper on my own.
We - “The World Enjoyer”
By pure chance, we met on November 11th, 2022 in a pub in Augsburg. Andrea hadn't felt like cooking, and Frank hadn't
felt like spending the evening home alone. Since the cocktail glasses in the pub are transported stacked on top of each other,
but one of the glasses burst and the shards fell into the sink with the crushed ice. The glass had to be taken out, of course.
But the waitresses acted so stupidly by turning on the water to let the ice melt. Andrea then thought out loud: “It's
not exactly environmentally friendly what they're doing.” And just like that, we struck up a conversation and from
that moment on, we couldn't tear ourselves away from each other.
At 00:30 am they “kicked us out”. Andrea asked Frank if it would be impertinent to ask for his phone number. Frank
didn't mind, of course, as he wanted to see the young, attractive woman again.
A few days later we actually met again and went out to dinner together. We discovered that we also have the same culinary
taste.
What followed was a difficult period. Andrea was still dealing with the grief and was in rehab. Therefore, Andrea couldn't be sure of her feelings yet. With Frank it was completely different. He quickly realized that Andrea had conquered his heart. He could hardly stand the temporary separation during her rehab stay and visited his new “love” in Bad Berka several times on the weekends.
In the summer of 2023, we took a Western Mediterranean cruise together, which gave us the chance to get to know each other even
better. We realized what a great team we were. We laughed a lot and enjoyed every minute together. More and more, it became
clear to both of us that we had fallen in love.
Over the following months, our relationship grew even stronger. We discovered that we had many more shared interests and got
along incredibly well. We also realized that we both love to travel and dream of getting to know the world more closely.
Andrea would have loved to take a trip around the world with Uwe, but unfortunately, this was no longer possible due to his
illness. Frank bought the VW camper van after the divorce to leave everything behind.
Since we shared the same desire for a big trip, we wanted to tackle this together. So, in the summer of 2023, we agreed on a
start date (May 25, 2025). With that, our planning for this “big project” began, and our anticipation grew
increasingly intense.
In spring 2024, we informed our employers that we would be resigning. They were surprised, but happy for us and our idea, though of course, a bit sad to see us go.
